Leadership Programs

A series of leadership development experiences for teens that help these future leaders discover their strengths and build lifelong leadership skills. Each program involves fun and challenging age-appropriate educational and recreational programs at camp, while working directly with children living with unique challenges in the process.

LTP (Leader in Training Program)

at all Camp Maple Leaf locations

The LTP (Leader in Training Program) is a supplemental program offered at all CML sites, for our campers who will be 14-16 by December 31, 2026. It is offered during any week that the camper attends.

Participation in this program is entirely optional, once presented to them at camp on the first day. This allows campers to opt in by their own choice and take ownership of their contribution. There is no prior registration or application other than the general camper application.

Along with their regular camper program, the week that they are at camp, LTPs will attend a Leadership Training Session as well as help-out around camp. Through being a role model and older buddy to our younger campers, working on large-camp programs and assisting our staff with camp chores (called “jobbies”), LTPs will earn volunteer hours while giving back to their camp community.

CIT (Counselor In Training)

On Jacob Island, Ontario

The CIT Program is a full summer program offered to campers turning 16 by December 31, 2026.

CITs are a very important and celebrated part of our Camp Community. They will enjoy social, recreational and educational programs while participating in Camp community as a helper and a leader.

Cit‘s will participate in a one-week training as well as regular in-services throughout the summer. They will live together while gaining experience and earning volunteer hours within the various areas of camp. This would include leading groups of campers and activities, working on the programming committee, helping out with kitchen and maintenance and contributing to the various chores around camp.

This is a transitional year from camper to staff, and as such, CIT’s will have support from staff and their Leadership Directors, yet the focus will be on the CITs’ contributions to the campers and the camp.

For this reason, the CITs will only be charged with one week of camp instead of the entirety of their stay.
